The next national goal for Bulgaria

With the arrival of the new year 2020, which also marks the beginning of a new decade, we at the Bulgarian Startup Association will ask leading politicians and public figures what they believe should be the cause that unites the Bulgarian people over the next 30 years.

Born at the end of the 1980s, we do not remember what life was like before the so-called “transition.” From today’s perspective, the 1990s are just as distant as the year 2050 is close. During the years of our development, national priorities and causes included Bulgaria’s accession to NATO and the European Union. We successfully achieved them. But where do we go from here?

We believe that being united around a goal embraced by the majority of society is what can bring us together as a nation, inspire us, and give real meaning to the well-known motto “Unity makes strength.” We are all aware of the painful problems we face. Corruption, the deteriorating quality of healthcare and education, and an economy based on public procurement rather than innovation and entrepreneurship are just some of the obstacles to a better life in Bulgaria.

We have repeatedly proven that we are capable of achieving more as a nation, but to do so we need a clear goal and direction. BESCO will ask various public figures one simple question with perhaps not such a simple answer: “What is the next big national goal for Bulgaria over the next 30 years?”

We will summarize the answers in the coming months and will also propose our own idea for a goal that can unite us and that we can strive toward.

Why did BESCO create Leadership & Advocacy Academy?

Leadership & Advocacy Academy doesn’t only develop individual participants. For BESCO, it is a long-term investment in a stronger ecosystem - building capacity where it matters most: within the organizations, institutions, and communities that shape the public environment.
